A Flurry of Snowflakes

I never work on just one cross stitch project at a time. In the stitchy world they are called "WIPS" which stands for Works in Progress. And then there are the ones that I pause on for any particular reason (frequently involving my ADD. LOL).

But my most recent start is making snowflake ornaments to fit these little 2 inch matboard circles. I kind of wish they were 1-1/2 inch, but the reality is that I can buy them pre-cut as 2-inch circles. So 2-inch it is. LOL

Anyway, I have an ornament tree that belonged to Kevin's mother (she loved Christmas absolutely as much as I do, which is why Kevin was able to acclimate himself to the crazy, when we got married. LOL). There use to be 2 of them, but who knows where the other one

is? It is currently kind of brassy looking, and well worn. I plan to spray paint it silver and then hang these ornaments on its various "branches" or "hooks".

I started out with a pattern for snowflakes that I wanted to do. But each snowflake was 64x64 stitches wide. Too big for an ornament. Then I purchased another one, 33x33 stitches, that I somehow thought would fit. Nope. Then I started scouring Etsy for the smallest simplest snowflakes that I can find. These are 23x23 stitches and fit perfectly. And there are 20 of them in the pattern. Finding frames for a 2 inch circle is hard. Unless you want a wooden one that looks like an embroidery hoop. And I do not. Its not the look I'm going for. So I decided that instead of putting them IN a frame, that I would cut an "inside frame" with my die cut machine, that I will attach just a little bit on the inside of the circle. That will take up some of the extra room where I was wishing it was a 1-1/2 circle. I'll cut the frame out of silver glitter paper, which will be the perfect little bit of sparkle. Speaking of sparkle, the fabric itself has a bit of sparkle in it, also. Unfortunately you can't really see it in the picture.

Who knows if I will finish them all in time for this winter or not. Probably not. Because another "shiny thing" will probably come along and distract me. But for now, on his hot August day with a "feels like" of 106, I'm going to sit here and stitch and dream of snow.
